The Galena Bay-Shelter Bay Ferry connects Hwy 23 between Revelstoke and Nakusp. The M.V. Columbia sails from Shelter Bay each hour from 5 am to midnight and from Galena Bay hourly from 5:30 am to 12:30 am.
Part of BC's no-fee inland ferry system the approx. 20 minute trip aboard the newly commissioned MV Columbia offers great views of Upper Arrow Lake, the Monashee Mountains to the west and the northern Selkirk Mountains. At Shelter Bay there is a Provincial Park by the same name offering some camping and recreation possibilities.
There are no services (fuel, etc) between Revelstoke and Nakusp unless visitors take the scenic detour south east on Hwy 31 to Trout Lake. This route is rather scenic, but mostly unpaved. It's a great side trip and a wonderful alternate route to Kootenay Lake for the more adventurous road warrior. Instead, most folks will want to head south on Hwy 6 toward Nakusp, perhaps planning a stop along the way for a soak at Halcyon Hot Springs.
